This is our standard quality Asalato assembled and tuned in our workshop. 1 STANDARD ASALATO is made of 2 matched shells and fine black nylon code. Adjusted in good balance for comfort playing and good sound. Cracks on the surface of balls are filled up by wax or glue, smoothed and finished with natural wax and oil for comfort and durability. (Please allow very small cracks undone.) Please specify the size by item No. in the followings, such as AS-STD-L, AS-STD-ML, AS-STD-MS or AS-STD-S. 1 STANDARD ASALATO is for one hand. If you want for both hands, please order 2 asalatos.

Asalato is made of natural material by handwork, so there are individual differences originally. Such a case is possible to occur, the nuts break after long use or when they fall on hard ground. Please understand we cannot guarantee that the nuts will never break.

Good shaking sound. Nuts can be hit quickly because 2 larger nuts are closer than the smaller ones. Good for fast rhythm and rapid hits. For advanced or larger hands.

What is asalato ?

Asalato is a traditional west African musical instrument. One asalato is made of 2 natural nuts shells, seeds or beans inside the shell, and a code connecting 2 shells. Simple but unique, it can produce various rhythms in 6/8 time or 16 beats. A ball held in a palm, while the code goes between a forefinger and the middle finger. When the hand moves back and force, the other ball turns around a palm and 2 balls hit each other, creating click & shaker sounds.
